MADISON (WXOW) — As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 1.53 million Wisconsin residents have received their first shot in the COVID-19 vaccine according to the state’s Department of Health.
The figures show that 1,534,154 people in the state have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That translates to 26.3 percent of state residents according to DHS. 893,146 people, or 15.3 percent of the state’s population, have finished the vaccine series.
In Western Wisconsin to date, 77,145 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. It equates to 28.1 percent of the total number of people in Western Wisconsin. 48,219, or 17.6 percent, have completed the vaccine series.
The DHS figures show that 35,715 people or 30.3 percent of residents of La Crosse County have had at least one dose of the vaccine. 22,762 people in La Crosse County or 19.3 percent completed the vaccine series according to the state.
In other counties, these are the percentages for the population receiving the first dose of a COVID vaccine: Monroe: 22.9 percent, Vernon: 27 percent, Trempealeau: 30.3 percent, and Jackson: 25.7 percent.

According to numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, there were ten new deaths in the state from the virus in the past 24 hours.
The total number of deaths in the state from the virus is 6,597.

DHS also reported 72 people were newly hospitalized.
As of Tuesday, 222 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Wisconsin hospitals.
Of those, 60 people are in the ICU according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
There have been 776 positive COVID-19 tests since yesterday in Wisconsin and 5,514 negative results.

Of all positive cases reported since the pandemic began, 560,775, or 97.7 percent, are considered recovered.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said that eight people are hospitalized in the Western Region of the state, which is comprised of Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, and Crawford counties. None of the patients are currently in intensive care.
