DJ is battling terminal brain cancer and set out to be sworn in by as many lawn enforcement agencies as possible, so far he’s been sworn in at approximately 250 agencies across Texas.
VICTORIA, Texas – The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office along with the Victoria Police Department swore in 10-year-old Devarjaye DJ Daniel as their newest officer and deputy sheriff. Although DJ might be the youngest deputy in the county it doesn’t take away from his passion. DJ is fighting terminal brain cancer and made it his goal to be sworn in by as many law enforcement agencies as possible.
The Victoria community showed up in full support to help welcome and celebrate DJ Friday afternoon as he was sworn in. Community members surrounded the front of the Victoria Courthouse and were there to welcome DJ as soon as he arrived.
Buddy Kamin is a local business owner who wanted to help support DJ in his journey however he could, and with Kamin being a cancer survivor he’s got a special place in his heart for DJ and everyone whose been impacted by cancer.
“When it comes to cancer, and I’m a cancer survivor, but when it comes to children’s cancer it’s over the top for me,” says Kamin. He also provided refreshments for the event as well as a surprise helicopter rental for DJ after he was sworn in.
After DJ was sworn in at the courthouse he officially became a sheriff’s deputy and Victoria Police officer, complete with the official uniform.
Although today was all about DJ he still was able to re-direct the spotlight to one of his heroes, his dad, Theodis Daniel.
“There’s only one veteran in this room and I know who it is. Right here. And I’m very proud of him because I saw him drive a helicopter before, and I was overwhelmed, now don’t get me wrong I am proud of him, since that day,” says DJ right before his father came to hug his son.
Victoria Chief of Police Roberto Arrendondo says that he’s pretty sure DJ felt the love from the Victoria community.
“DJ is battling, and he’s winning the battle right now and I think he’s winning the battle because of all of the support and all the love that he’s getting from each community he visits. So I’m pretty excited about that, huge success today, I’m hoping he felt all the love,” says Chief Arrendondo.
Chief Arrendondo was DJ’s chauffeur for the day and he says that DJ told him that victoria has been one of his favorites, with DJ’s being sworn in at nearly 250 different law enforcement agencies across the state.
Be sure to obey the law because there’s a new sheriff in town, Mr. DJ Daniel.
