Entrepreneur-turned-politician Vivek Ramaswamy, along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has announced plans for a major reduction in U.S. federal government jobs. Both have been appointed in charge of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to streamline government operations. At an event in Mar-a-Lago, Florida on Thursday, Ramaswamy expressed confidence in making significant cuts to the federal bureaucracy.

Push for Bureaucratic Overhaul

“We are in a position to start the mass deportations of millions of unelected federal bureaucrats out of the DC bureaucracy. That, too, is how we’re going to save this country,” Ramaswamy said. He emphasized that the overhaul would be bold and decisive, with Musk bringing a “chainsaw” rather than a “chisel” to the bureaucratic restructuring. “We are going to be taking it to that bureaucracy. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Ramaswamy added.
Ramaswamy also expressed his belief that the U.S. is not a nation in decline, but rather one on the rise. “I think with what happened last week, we’re back to being a nation in our ascent. A nation whose best days are actually still ahead of us,” he stated, drawing a comparison to the decline of the Roman Empire.

A Vision for America’s Future

Ramaswamy envisioned a future where American children could once again believe that hard work and dedication would guarantee success. “It is going to be morning in America, the start of a new dawn, the start of a country where our kids are going to grow up and we’re going to tell them and mean it, that you get ahead in the United States again with your own hard work and commitment and dedication,” he said.

Weekly Updates and Transparency

Musk and Ramaswamy also announced plans to live-stream weekly updates, called “Dogecasts,” to keep the American public informed about the progress of DOGEâ€s efforts. “Our goal is to shave the size of government and to be as transparent as possible with the public,” Ramaswamy explained. They aim to reduce the scope of government to align more closely with the vision of America’s Founding Fathers.

Criticism of Bureaucracy and its Impact on Innovation

Ramaswamy also discussed the negative effects of excessive bureaucracy on innovation. He argued that many federal agencies, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), impose unnecessary costs and hinder new developments. “They are utterly agnostic to how their daily decisions stifle new inventions and impose costs that deter growth,” Ramaswamy said.

A New Approach to Government

Ramaswamy likened their efforts to a modern-day “Manhattan Project” and called for a complete overhaul of the federal bureaucracy. “We are assembling the brightest minds in the country. This is the equivalent of a modern Manhattan Project,” he said. He believes targeting bureaucratic costs will save money and restore self-governance to the people. “I think the major problem holding our country back is a federal bureaucracy. Target that cost, save the money, restore self-governance,” Ramaswamy concluded.

As Ramaswamy and Musk take charge of DOGE, their focus will be on creating a more efficient, transparent government, aiming to reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and promote innovation.
