Remember remember the 5th of November.
Guy Fawkes Night. Bonfire Night. Firework Night. Whatever you call it, it’s back again.
Celebrated annually on November 5th, Guy Fawkes night commemorates the events of 1605 when a man called Guy Fawkes was arrested after trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
To celebrate the fact that King James I survived the murder attempt, people across London lit bonfires, and a few months later, November 5th was made an official public celebration of the plot’s failure.
In the UK, people often make bonfires, set off fireworks and light sparklers to commemorate the plot, and some people even make a fabric ‘Guy’ to burn on the fire.
