Every year, people in America celebrate Juneteenth which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the USA on June 19th 1865.
Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, the date celebrates the end of slavery in America and the beginning of a life of freedom for African-Americans living in America.
On January 1st 1863, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation into law announcing: “That all persons held as slaves are, and henceforward shall be free.”
However, it wasn’t until two years later that all enslaved people in Texas were actually freed.
