The pair famously shared the ring at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in May 2015, with Mayweather winning what was initially billed as Fight of the Century by unanimous decision on the scorecards.
Unfortunately for boxing fans around the world the two legends never engaged in a rematch, but that could well change now following Money’s decision to return to the sport.
And Manny Pacquiao has now revealed that he’d be open on a sequel fight.
“I don’t know of his plan.
“But I’m just here still active and willing to fight anybody in the welterweight division.”
Pacquiao’s manager Sean Gibbons also told The Athletic: “Viva Floyd!! Let’s Go Champ”
To announce the news he is coming out of retirement, Mayweather posted a picture on Instagram of himself wearing the shorts he beat Canelo Alvarez in, writing: “Coming out of retirement in 2020.”
He recently shared an image of him and UFC president Dana White on Instagram, captioning the snap: “Dana White and I are working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020.”
It’s likely that Mayweather will only be fighting in exhibition fights, as opposed to delving back into the professional boxing game.
He said earlier this week: “I’ve got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth.
“Boxing is a very, very brutal sport. In the last few years a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle.
“You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career.
“I’ll still travel and do exhibitions. I make great money doing exhibitions; between $10million and $30 million.
“I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting.”
