Victoria’s Secret is bringing down the curtain on its fashion show after 24 years, its parent company has said.

The annual event, which used to be watched by millions of viewers each year, had been criticised over an alleged lack of diversity at the same time as ratings began to fall.

The 2018 show attracted the lowest audience since its launch in 1995 and was once a major pop culture event.

However, it appeared to be increasingly out of step with the changing world in recent years and critics said it was sexist and outdated.

The show suffered a backlash last year after Ed Razek, then chief marketing officer at parent company L Brands, suggested in an interview that a “transsexual” model should not be part of the event because “the show is a fantasy”.

“It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is,” he told Vogue.

Mr Razek later apologised for the comments and left the company earlier this year.

The news comes as Victoria’s Secret’s sales decline.

Some of the world’s best-known models have appeared as “Angels” on the show, including Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr and Gigi Hadid.
