RAINS caused by the southwest monsoon locally known as ‘habagat’ would be experienced in most parts of Luzon, while the Visayas and Minidanao would likely have generally fair weather, state weather agency Pagasa said Sunday.
In particular, habagat has been affecting Ilocos region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales and Bataan where flash floods or landslides would be possible due to moderate to at times heavy rains, weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said.
In its 5 a.m. weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said habagat would also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said that partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours or drizzles would be experienced over the Visayas and Mindano due to localized thunderstorms.
On Friday, May 30, Pagasa declared the onset of the southwest monsoon – one of the precursors of the rainy season, which may eventually be declared within the first half of June.
