MANILA, Philippines–The low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is likely to become a tropical depression (TD) within the next 24 hours, the state-run weather agency said on Sunday.
Weather specialist Robert Badrina of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that the weather disturbance would not have a direct effect on the country.
However, its trough or extension has already been affecting the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan, where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are likely.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan would experience similar weather patterns due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘habagat,’ according to the national weather bureau.
The rest of the country would likely have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms in the next 24 hours, it added.
