MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday said the Senate was prepared to allow the Department of Justice (DOJ) to take custody of former Bulacan 1st district engineer Henry Alcantara, a key figure in the Senate’s ongoing investigation into allegedly anomalous flood control projects.
In an interview with reporters, Sotto clarified that Alcantara, currently under Senate custody as part of a legislative inquiry, may be transferred once the DOJ makes a formal request.
“Yes, just from the DOJ,” Sotto said when asked whether Alcantara could be taken anytime. “We can borrow that too,” he added, referring to possible coordination arrangements between the Senate and the Justice Department.
Sotto said the transfer could be done even if the Senate investigation has yet to be concluded, provided there was proper coordination between the two institutions.
“Possible,” Sotto said when asked if resource persons could be released while the inquiry was ongoing, adding, “But not Discaya yet.”
