THE mercury is set to climb even higher today, with highs of 27C predicted, according to the Met Office.
However, thunderstorms are likely across parts of south-west England and southwest Wales on Wednesday, leading the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for these areas.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: “The thunderstorms could bring lots of lightning, some hail, as well as some heavy rain, and with the half term there is an increased number of tourists in this area.
“The thunderstorms do then push north-eastwards into the Midlands and across more of Wales, but they also ease and break up, so these places will see some showers but they won’t be as intense.”
We’ll all be basking in a mini-heatwave over the next fortnight, with thousands heading to beaches and parks to make the most of the sunshine.
Coral now makes this month just 6-4 to become the hottest June since records began.

Government adviser tells sunbathing Brits to follow social distancing rules as the UK is on a ‘knife edge’.
As many flock to the UK’s beaches and beauty spots in the warm weather, the country’s top scientists have warned the next two week are crucial for the way out of the pandemic.
Susan Michie, a professor of health psychology at University College London who sits on government advisory group Scientific Pandemic Insights Group on Behaviours (SPI-B), told Sky News: “We’re on a knife-edge.
“We could go either way with this new variant.
“Either it could run away as it did before Christmas, which would be extremely serious and we’d have to have more restrictions, or potentially it could be contained. But that does mean everybody needs to be cautious right now.”

ODDS TUMBLING ON HOTTEST JUNE
Bank Holiday Monday was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK and bookmaker Coral now makes this month just 6-4 to become the hottest June since records began.
The odds have been cut from 4-1 over the last week as the wet spring fades into a distant memory.
“Summer is coming and the sun is shining down on us now. We have slashed the odds significantly on this June going on to become the warmest we have ever had,” said Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead.
Coral make it 2-1 that this summer is the UK’s hottest ever, whilst it is 11-8 that the highest ever recorded temperature is surpassed at any point in 2021.
“We could see a number of weather records tumble if the temperatures continue to soar as we exit spring and head into summer,” added Aitkenhead.

RECORD TEMPERATURES SET TO CONTINUE AFTER BALMY BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY
Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “We’re looking again at some very warm sunshine around for many northern and eastern parts of the UK.
“But thundery showers will start to push in across south-west England and Wales by Wednesday morning.”
He said the unsettled conditions will start to feed north and eastwards across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, although temperatures could still top 27C or 28C across parts of the Midlands and East Anglia on Wednesday.
There is a continued risk of thundery showers across the east and south-east England on Thursday and Friday, with conditions beginning to turn fresher from the west heading into the weekend.
“There will be a bit more cloud around to end the week, with temperatures coming back down to average, the high teens for most,” Mr Petagna said.

HYDRATION HACK
AFTER roasting in the heat this Bank Holiday weekend, Brits can now find out if they’re dehydrated with this clever new hack.
With temperatures expected to continue to soar after hitting a scorching 25C yesterday, a new scale can indicate if we’re dehydrated based on the colour of our pee.
Devised by colour experts Pantone and Highland Spring, the five colour chart shows different shades of “yellow” to show if we need to drink more water.
The colour names range from “Spring in Your Step” for the lightest shade to “Drink Up” for the darkest.
It comes after new research by OnePoll has found 40 per cent of Brits are unsure of how much water to drink.
