On a cruise ship, the captain has the final say on all matters.
As the unquestioned leader of the ship, the captain can send a passenger or crew member home if they think that’s the right move.
Passengers, however, can be thrown off ships for a variety of reasons. Cruise lines actually have very strict rules and, if you break them, the consequences can be severe.

Cruise security personnel actually have a fair amount of leeway when it comes to deciding how people get punished. In one case, a couple of years ago, a Come Cruise With Me reader was punched in the face by a teenager during a game of laser tag on a Royal Caribbean cruise.
After a very through investigation, which included the security officers ruling the he had not provoked the incident, our reader was given some choices as to the punishment of the offending teen. He could have asked for him to be arrested at the next stop, or had the cruise line kick the teenager and his family off the ship at the next port.
Ultimately, our reader agreed that the teen would be confined to his cabin when not with an adult parent.
The cruise line, however, had every right to kick him off and could certainly have done so.
5 things to never do on a cruise
There are, however, 5 things that will get you kicked off a cruise pretty much every time you do one of them. YouTube personality Jayson Judson shared some things that he believes will get you sent home (at your own travel expense) if you opt to do them.
Transcript:
Don’t do one of these five things unless you want to get kicked off your cruise.Â
Number one: Pranking the guest or crew.Â
YouTuber Jack Doherty learned this firsthand as he was not only kicked off of MSC, but Royal Caribbean and banned for life in a matter of weeks.
Number two: Throwing stuff overboard.Â
A group threw their balcony furniture off an MSC cruise and were fined $10,000 for the furniture, and were arrested at the next port.Â
Number three: Getting in a fight.
This is usually a no questions asked situation as the cruise line will have local authorities waiting for you at the next port of call.Â
Number four: Illegal substances. While it may be legal in your state, it isn’t legal federally.
At many ports, if you’re caught with it, you’ll be arrested. Do you really want to spend time in jail in Jamaica?Â

And number five: Jumping off the ship. If you live, you and your group will be kicked off.
A young man learned this lesson the hard way in Nassau, Bahamas, when he jumped off the 10th deck of the Symphony of the Seas.Â
