Florida police launched an investigation after two bodies were found late Monday in the landing gear area of a JetBlue aircraft at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.
“Around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, Broward Sheriff’s Office Airport District deputies responded to a call regarding two individuals found in the landing gear area of a JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport,” Carey Codd, public information officer for Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, obtained by NewsNation.
“Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue also responded. On scene, paramedics pronounced both individuals deceased,” Codd added.
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office is now working to perform autopsies to determine the causes of death of both individuals.
The names of the victims have not been publicly released.
The incident comes days after a body was found in a wheel well of a United Airlines flight to Maui, Hawaii, last month.
Airlines have been encouraged to streamline their process before takeoff to ensure passengers without a ticket aren’t hiding on the plane.
JetBlue has been under scrutiny in recent months for chronic flight delays — and has cut off flights to several cities following the collapse of its merger with Spirit Airlines.
