The Senate on Wednesday is slated to vote on the House-passed funding bill to reopen the federal government for the 12th time.
But first, Sen. Jeff Merkley will need to wrap up, as he has been holding the floor since 6:21 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
The vote is likely to fail — again. And Republican leaders are raising the issue of changing the filibuster’s rules or whether they need to formulate a Plan B as Democrats dig their heels in over health care subsidies.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will once again host dueling pressers.
President Trump has a light schedule on Tuesday. He will meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the afternoon. Meanwhile, his demolition of the White House’s East Wing for a $200 million ballroom is drawing increased scrutiny.
Later in the day, New York City mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani (D), Andrew Cuomo (I) and Curtis Sliwa (R) will take the stage in the second debate ahead of the November election.
