MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was elected to the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET), which has been tasked with resolving poll disputes involving senators.
His election was announced during the plenary session on Tuesday completing the chamber’s representation to the tribunal as mandated by the Constitution.
Cayetano joins Senators Pia Cayetano, Robinhood Padilla, Francis Pangilinan, and Camille Villar from the majority bloc. Sen. Panfilo Lacson was also named as the representative of the minority bloc.
The tribunal, established under Section 17, Article VI of the 1987 Constitution, consists of nine members, three justices from the Supreme Court and six senators. It is empowered to adjudicate all election protests concerning Senate seats.
