MANILA, Philippines – A 53-year-old man from Laguna is facing frustrated murder charges for allegedly trying to burn his wife as she was sleeping, police said Thursday.
Police quoted the unidentified wife, 44, as saying that she was resting when she felt cold liquid poured on her body. She said she awoke to find her husband, identified only as “Ramil”, holding a lighter, which he lit as he embraced her in their home in Barangay Marinig, Cabuyao City on Thursday.
The fire quickly spread to the victim’s body, prompting her to run to the comfort room to extinguish the flames.
Police said the suspect’s brother witnessed the attack and poured water on “Ramil” before seeking help from barangay officials who rushed both the victim and the suspect to Perpetual Help Hospital in Biñan City.
Authorities did not disclose the extent of their injuries.
Police said investigation was underway.
