MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro said he would file a motion for reconsideration over the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division to cancel his certificate of candidacy for congressman in the city’s first district.
Teodoro clarified that he was still a legitimate candidate as the decision was not final and executory.
“I will file a Motion for Reconsideration, and I have five days from today within which to do so, the Resolution is not yet final and for all intents and purposes I am still a legitimate candidate for Member of the House of Representatives of the First District of Marikina,” the Marikina mayor said in a statement.
The Comelec said Teodoro committed material misrepresentation in his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) as regards his residency in Barangay San Roque in the first district.
The decision stemmed from separate petitions filed by Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, Katrina Mari Faye Marco, Angelu Estanislao, and Ma. Luisa de Guzman, seeking to cancel Teodoro’s candidacy for allegedly violating Section 78 of the Omnibus Election Code (OEC).
“The fact that two petitions were filed against me shows that there are political underpinnings that is geared towards my removal from the electoral race. I will not allow this to happen atvttnd will exhaust all legal remedies available to me,” Teodoro said.
