MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has proclaimed the new mayor of Legazpi, Albay following a Supreme Court ruling that disqualified former mayor Geraldine Rosal.
Proclaimed on Monday was Alfredo Garbin, who got the second-highest number of votes in the 2022 elections.
Garbin was proclaimed at the Comelec Session Hall in Intramuros, Manila.
The high court promulgated its decision in the consolidated cases in GR. Nos.266775, 266796 and 269274, dated October 22, 2024, wherein it affirmed the disqualification of Noel Rosal, Carmen Rosal and Jose Barizo for violating the Omnibus Election Code in connection with the disbursement and release of government funds during the prohibited period.
