Egypt to launch Wi-Fi Calling during first quarter of 2025

An official source in the communications sector revealed that Egypt intends to launch a Wi-Fi Calling service during the first quarter of 2025.

The service aims to improve the quality of Egypt’s communications services, especially in areas that do not have mobile towers.

The source added that the goal is to increase the availability of communications through various means, including through mobile towers, as well as via the Internet, especially in areas that do not enjoy strong coverage from mobile networks of various companies.

What is Wi-Fi Calling?

Wi-Fi Calling allows one to make and receive phone calls over the Internet, which helps improve sound quality, especially in places that suffer from poor traditional coverage, including remote areas or inside buildings with thick walls.

Communications experts explained that countries provide such tech to enable better services, and they also contribute to reducing pressure on networks, especially in cities with high population density.

The Wi-Fi Calling service provides a cheaper alternative to traditional calls, especially when making international calls or in areas that suffer from poor cellular coverage, which reduces costs for users.

This service represents a step towards modernizing the communications infrastructure in Egypt and enhancing services that users can access via the Internet, thereby paving way for more use of the Internet in daily life, whether in business or in social life.

The communications sector has witnessed more investments in improving the technological infrastructure, whether by extending fiber lines to all regions and increasing the number of mobile towers, as well as partnering with international companies in extending submarine cables as Egypt, through its geographical location, is a crossing for about 90 percent of data between Asia and Europe.

The sector has achieved growth rates of 16 percent.

The near future is expected to witness further improvements in the application of the Wi-Fi Calling service in Egypt, with increased investment in the Internet infrastructure and the expansion of coverage in different areas.

Telecom companies in Egypt will also continue to work on developing new services that contribute to improving the user experience within this field.
