Synopsis: The front moved through the area pulling down cooler air from the north. The high pressure in west Texas will pull on the trough and cold front over the Gulf and this will keep gusty winds on Friday (North 15/G25 mph). Gale Force Conditions (39-54 mph/34-47 knots) will be over the Gulf.
The cool air will keep temperatures in the 50’s while the cool, dry air starts to thin out the clouds (clouds tend to evaporate, or the water vapor does in cool, dry air) from north to south.
High pressure will continue to clear out the South Texas skies overnight. Light winds, cool air and clear skies will allow for temperatures to drop into the 30’s Friday night putting a Freeze Warning in effect from Midnight until Saturday morning at 9 am. From Victoria west to Tilden there will be a light freeze with most coastal spots staying above freezing.
The high (surface) will move from west to east on Saturday, allowing for warm, moist Gulf air to move up into the Crossroads. The high will move out over the Gulf by Monday. The winds from the north on Friday will shift to the south on Saturday (Southwest at just 5 mph). Saturday will see lots of sunshine with temperatures in the 60’s.
For the long-term period, Saturday Night through Thursday, sunshine will warm Sunday up nicely in South Texas after a chilly start (mid 30’s to the low 70’s). By Sunday night, airflow out of the Gulf (south) will increase as a low-pressure systems heads towards Texas that is moving our way from the Desert Southwest.
The low moves into Texas on Sunday night and into Monday. The system will meet up with Gulf moisture and should trigger some showers, mostly along the coastal locations. The sun’s stored energy will not be that strong but upper level moving winds could be enough to trigger a thunderstorm or two on Monday (and Sunday night).
Those upper-level winds will weaken and that should put an end to the showers Monday night (from west to east) allowing for temperatures to warm through most of the week.
A trough will move across the central portion of the United States late next week, the trough will push a cold front across South Texas sometime Wednesday night through Thursday. The front could bring in freezing temperatures, strong winds and cold wind chill temperatures.
There will be decent moisture (1-1.5″) ahead of the front so there could be a few rain showers. If the temperatures drop enough, then we will watch for wintry precipitation. We will continue to monitor this as time moves ahead.
