Anthony Mackie, who will appear as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, has teased hints about how the movie could be. Avengers: Doomsday will hit theatres worldwide on May 1, 2026.
Anthony Mackie on Avengers: Doomsday
In a chat with IGN, the Captain America: Brave New World star revealed that shooting for Doomsday was set to start soon. “We’re supposed to go out this week, and we’ll be out there doing it,” Mackie said. “Everybody’s excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great,” he added.
The Hurt Locker actor said that he was “excited” about the project. “I’m really excited for what this project is going to be. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had,” Mackie revealed.
Avengers: Doomsday cast
The film will see the return of several cast members such as Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. The original X-Men stars – Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Ian McKellen and Rebecca Romjin – will make their MCU debut as well. Apart from that the lead actors of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach) will feature in Avengers: Doomsday as well.
Two movies set to release before Doomsday – Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps could provide vital clues on how the superheroes could reunite to fight Doctor Doom.
Spider-Man and Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday?
Two big absences from the cast announcement for Doomsday were Tom Holland and Hugh Jackman. While the rest of the X-Men might return, there is no clarity if Hugh Jackman will play any role in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel did release an 8.5-hour-long video of the actor taking deep breaths recently to mark National Stress Awareness Month. This did lead to a lot of fan theories about Jackman’s role in the superhero franchise, but Marvel has not confirmed anything. As for Tom Holland, a new theory states that Peter Parker will not be seen in the next Avengers film since his fourth solo Marvel outing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, takes place at the same time as the events of Doomsday. This means Spider-Man fans might have to wait until Avengers: Secret Wars to see the friendly neighbourhood superhero reunite with other Marvel stars.
