The much-loved and famed animated series is based on Riot Games’s League of Legends, followed two sisters played by Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, who found themselves on opposing sides of a brutal war.
Is Arcane Season 3 coming on Netflix?
The final batch of episodes for the second season of Arcane have dropped on Netflix. But is that the end of the show?League of Legends creator Marc Merill clarified the confusion over a scrapped Arcane season 3 (and beyond) in a recent post on Reddit. He wrote: “The confusion is because internally there was a budget conversation about ‘approving 5 seasons’ – which simply means we were setting aside a bunch of money for lots of development and is completely irrelevant to the Arcane creative. The creative and making something great is what the priority should always be for Riot and our teams.”
There have been conflicting reports as to why Arcane will be ending with its second season. While the creative team behind the show has repeatedly stressed that the decision was creative, bringing the story they wanted to tell to a timely end, a report by Variety has suggested it was actually an issue of budgeting.
This revelation came alongside the release of the first season-two trailer, months before the new episodes were scheduled to stream.

Is Netflix cancelling Arcane season 3 prematurely?
This isn’t simply a case of Netflix cancelling a show prematurely. It turns out that the plan from the beginning was always to conclude Arcane after two seasons.
In an interview with Variety, co-creator Christian Linke explained that Arcane was intended to be “the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche.”

Speaking to the BBC, co-showrunner Christian Linke explained: “We’ve all watched TV shows that didn’t really know when to stop. We don’t want to be one of those.”
Netflix has not axed the show and it was the decision of the show’s creators to end it after season two.
Critics and audiences had fallen in love with Arcane, particularly the animation, which was beautifully crafted by Paris-based studio Fortiche, making the news even more surprising.
