A supermarket shopper has discovered a way to skip the queue at his local Asda – and it’s totally in the rules.
Tom Haynes was irritated by the lack of social distancing in the queue to pay so decided to use a new initiative which was introduced during the pandemic.
Tom told MyLondon : “Whether checkout or self-service, most people will stick to a trolley-length distance of separation, but no further, and if you ask the person behind you to move you’ll most likely be laughed at.
“This isn’t the fault of supermarket workers, who honestly have enough to be dealing with without telling people to pull their mask out from under their chin and over their face every two minutes.
“Truthfully, we have only ourselves to blame for the collapse of social distancing in supermarkets.”
But, if you’re like Tom and want to be more careful to stay away from others then you can try his idea.
He explained: “Did you know that there’s a secret hack at Asda which will let you skip the whole queue?
“Of course you didn’t, because if you did I wouldn’t have been able to take so many pictures of queues stretching down the aisles of Asda’s behemoth store on Old Kent Road.”
Tom added: “Now I don’t want to do Asda’s PR for them, but this hack is so in front of people’s faces I want to shout it from the rooftops.
“Take my hand, dear reader, and I’ll introduce you to something that won’t ever let you down: Scan and Go.”
There are adverts for the scheme all over the place and all you need to do it is a camera phone and an Asda account.
Bring up the app when you’re shopping, scan the barcode on your items and you can pop them straight in your basket or bag.
Tom added: “At the end of your shop you can sail straight to a Scan and Go stand (with, I repeat, zero queueing) and scan a bar code on a screen which immediately processes all your items.
“You might get spot-checked but it’s no big deal.
“You can then bag up all your stuff and head right out.
“I highly recommend taking your receipt, because if the doors go off you’ll find no record of purchase on your phone (honestly this is the only thing the app is missing – Asda, sort it out).”
You can down load the handy app here and never have to queue again!
