A murder investigation has been launched after a seriously injured baby girl died in hospital.
Jordan Lee, 28, had been charged with attempted murder after a four-month-old girl was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital on Thursday. Police confirmed today she had died on Sunday.
A Home Office post-mortem examination will now be carried out to try and establish the baby’s cause of death.
Detective Inspector Mark Dickinson, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: ‘My thoughts remain very much with this baby’s wider family and they are being supported by specialist officers.
‘While a man has been charged, our investigation is very much ongoing and I would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.’
Lee, of Onslow Road, Blackpool, was remanded in custody when he appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Saturday. He had initially been arrested on suspicion of GBH.
A decision as to whether Lee will face further charges will be made in due course in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, police said.
