After No. 4 Auburn’s 81-77 win at No. 24 Alabama on Tuesday night, Auburn Coach Bruce Pearl complimented the Tigers’ fans by comparing them to another fan base.
“As much as anything, the Auburn family turned out. The Auburn family turned out,” Pearl said. “If you all were here, you saw what I’m talking about.”
Pearl later added, “Our fans are traveling like Kentucky fans now. I mean this is something else.”
The Tigers are now 15-1 on the season, including 4-0 in the SEC.
Top-flight freshman Jabari Smith paced Auburn with 25 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Eastern Kentucky transfer Wendell Green Jr. scored 19 points off the bench and led the Tigers in assists with four. Green is averaging 13.1 points and 4.6 assists on the season.
Auburn’s only loss was 115-109 in double overtime to Connecticut in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Nov. 24, 2021, in the Bahamas. The Tigers are the only team to not lose in regulation this college basketball season.
Kentucky plays at Auburn on Saturday, Jan. 22.
Before then, Auburn plays at Ole Miss on Saturday before returning home to face Georgia on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
