Bayern Munich welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Allianz Arena this evening in the first leg of the teams’ Champions League quarter-final tie.
Tonight’s game – between the German champions and French champions – is a rematch of last season’s final, from which Bayern emerged 1-0 winners for their first title in the competition since 2013. The trophy has long eluded PSG despite their domestic dominance, but they will have been buoyed by their last-16 triumph over Barcelona this term, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men securing a 5-2 aggregate victory that began with a stunning 4-1 first-leg win. Bayern, meanwhile, were 6-2 victors on aggregate against Lazio, and are unbeaten in their last 16 outings.
The Bundesliga outfit enter tonight’s fixture on the back of a crucial 1-0 league win against second-placed RB Leipzig, whereas PSG suffered a 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat by Lille, with both sides reduced to 10 men in the final moments of that game – though Neymar’s red card will not affect his involvement here. In contrast, Bayern’s star man Robert Lewandowski will miss out due to injury, with both teams set to be without numerous players on account of a mixture of fitness issues and Covid-19 infections. Bayern Munich 2-3 PSG
71’: Mbappe’s goal came at such a good time for PSG, too. Bayern were starting to grind them down after pulling level, and the visitors looked fatigued. But Mbappe’s goal has woken them up and injected life into the team, while also seeming to take the wind out of Bayern’s sails. This game is not over though.

70’: Angel Di Maria looks like he’s pulled his hamstring and is replaced by Moise Kean. It was Di Maria’s ball that had played Mbappe in for PSG’s third goal.

CLINICAL – Mbappe does it again! PSG win the ball back and break forward. In two passes Mbappe is played in on the left channel, he glides into the box, stand Boateng up, and whips a low shot through the defender’s legs into Neuer’s near post. There was nothing the goalkeeper could have done there, though. That was just too good from Mbappe.

64’: Muller has a cut on the back of his neck and has to go off to get cleaned up. A chance for PSG to breathe, maybe?

Bayern Munich 2-2 PSG
61’: It’s the least Bayern deserve after taking the game on to PSG in this second half. They’re throwing men forward and playing some really nice football, but it’s a dangerous game. Just seconds before Muller’s equaliser, Mbappe had a chance to be through on goal but mistimed his run and was offside. Neuer saved the one-on-one anyway.

GOAL! Bayern Munich 2-2 PSG (MULLER 60’)
Muller heads Bayern level from close range! It’s another beautiful cross from Kimmich from the right. Muller’s run isn’t picked up and the German nods it in from six yards.

57’: Great play from Bayern! They slice PSG open with some intricate passing, and Sane suddenly is through on goal. He picks the wrong option, trying to find Choupo-Moting with a square pass, and PSG clear. Bayern are attacking with seven players here.

56’: Just getting another look at Neymar’s chance. It broke to the Brazilian after Mbappe was stopped in the box, but it was statuesque defending from the Bayern players as Neymar took it on. Neuer bailed them out with a big save with his legs.

54’: Alaba skips round the outside of Sane and clips a cross into the box. Danilo gets up well and manages to head clear, with Choupo-Moting also contending for the ball. Really good defending. Navas then adds another save to his stat sheet as he collects a low drive from range.

52’: Save! Nice move from Bayern. Kimmich finds Muller who lays it off to Alaba on the edge of the box. Alaba’s curling effort is tipped wide, before Navas makes another save, this time from Pavard at the back post!
