THE BBC punished just one journalist for contentious tweets in a year despite staff sparking outrage on social media.
And Beeb chiefs let off that unnamed employee with a written warning.
The Freedom of Information revelation, for 12 months to April 1, comes after the BBC axed footie pundit Steve Thompson for calling a row between players “handbags”.
Beeb boss Tim Davie wants the 6,000 news staff to show impartiality.
Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis fired off a string of controversial opinions online as well as liking a tweet claiming Boris Johnson’s rhetoric was “fuelling racism in British society”.
Maitlis herself wrote on the platform criticising Brexit and comparing our PM to Donald Trump as well as retweeting a Lib Dem candidate who praised Tory voters for switching.
She also retweeted a post calling Conservatives the “nasty party” while political editor Laura Kuenssberg was slammed for wrongly claiming a Labour activist punched a Tory advisor.
Furious Conservative MP Lee Anderson yesterday slammed the “shocking” BBC, blasting: “The BBC are not fit for purpose.
“They are nothing more than a left-wing propaganda machine who allow their multi-millionaire stars to interfere with the running of our country.”
