The Garnock Valley side announced this morning (February 15) that the league’s disciplinary committee have decided that the result will stand as it was when the match was halted – seeing them pick up all three points.
Beith had previously been left in limbo after the match was abandoned with only moments remaining.
Referee Calum Haswell blew the whistle on proceedings after around 91 minutes – and shortly after Beith had gone 3-1 ahead.
Josh Fowler had just netted and it looked like all three points would be heading back to Bellsdale Park – but as as the young striker wheeled away, some fans claimed he took his celebrations to the Largs technical area, which led to the match being thrown into disrepute.
The scenes which followed saw both managers, Chris Strain of Beith and Stuart Davidson of Largs, sent off. Then, as reported by Beith on social media, “a scuffle” started as they made their way to the dressing rooms.
A Beith spokesperson said: “The club can tonight confirm that following various correspondence with the WoSFL disciplinary committee, including attending a hearing last night, that the outcome of our abandoned WoSFL Premier Division Match vs Largs Thistle on January 18 is that the result stands – a 3-1 win for Beith Juniors.
“This is welcome news for all at the club, not least those who have had to deal with the process, as well as just reward for our players and management for the performance we put in on the day.”
The result, and subsequent three points, will see Beith move four points clear at the top of the WoSFL Premier League – though Darvel and Auchinleck Talbot, who lead the chasing pack, can still move ahead of Chris Strain’s side should they win their games in hand.
Largs Thistle are yet to make comment on the situation – and neither club has revealed if any other sanctions have been imposed.
