Belle Delphine’s turbulent childhood – from school dropout to leaving home at 15
Belle Delphine’s journey to success hasn’t been an easy one.
Before the age of 16, she’d already dropped out of school and moved out of her family home.
She turned to the internet for her support network, which ultimately kick-started her career.
The 21-year-old, who lives in East Sussex, talked to Philip DeFranco about finding fame and making millions online.
She told the host’s “A Conversation With…” podcast she was on the cusp of dropping out of school for years.
The influencer said: “My attendance was one of the worst in my class or year. Whenever I’d come into school people would make jokes about it like ‘she’s finally in’.”
She continued: “I was actually having a really hard time at home so I was finding going into school difficult…
“I wanted to move school so I tested some schools out and moved to one nearby.”
This didn’t seem to solve Belle’s problems and she admits she continued to “struggle with friendship” during her teenage years.
The final blow came when the teenager posted a crass joke about cancer online, which quickly spread around her local town.
She was shunned by classmates and branded “b*llend” by bullies on Snapchat.
Belle said: “I didn’t mean to offend anyone and I felt terrible.
“I was like ‘what have I done’ and people were like ‘if you come to school I’m going to beat you up’.
“I was already a really shy, reserved person. One of those people who sit in the back of class and I was just so nervous around this new school.”
At 14-years-old, Belle made the decision to stop going to school altogether and sought treatment for depression.
The only friends she had were made online – and she left her family home to move in with one of them in London when she was just 15.
Belle recalled: “This drove me hard into the internet.
“What happened after this was I stayed inside for several months as I had no friends in real life anymore.
“I joined an online community and I managed to make some friends from it.”
Focusing her attention on the internet ended up being a wise move for Belle.
The odds weren’t in her favour as she left school without qualifications – but she got her big break by dressing up in Lolita fashion online.
Nowadays, Belle Delphine boasts 1.95 million subscribers on YouTube and has huge followings on Twitter and Instagram too.
Her fans are so hardcore they’ve purchased vials of her old bathwater for £24.
Belle is quite a polarising character and some of her dark humour doesn’t go down well online.
But even though she’s not liked with anyone, she’s chuffed with how her life has turned out.
Belle added: “I always thought dropping out of school and having no GCSEs, which is the equivalent of no high school qualifications in America, that I couldn’t even get into college or work in McDonald’s.
“I thought ‘I am f***ed, I’ve ruined my life’… (But) my life has changed so much for the better. It’s given me financial freedom to live by myself.”
When she eventually quits the internet, Belle wants to return to small town life.
This is definitely a possibility in the near future giving that she’s raking in so much money online.
After joining adult subscription website OnlyFans, she’s managed to rake in $1.2 million a month from saucy photos and video clips.
Belle added: “I just would like a simple, comfortable life, in a nice country house or something. And maybe have a few animals on my land, that would be quite cool.”
