Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she has no intention of closing the NSW borders despite recording one locally acquired case of COVID-19 linked to a Byron Bay party.
“There is absolutely no cause for us to close borders,” she said in Wednesday’s press conference.
However, localised restrictions will be introduced for all venues in the Byron, Ballina, Lismore and Tweed shires including caps on household visitors, the four-square metre rule and a mask mandate.
She said while it was not mandatory it was the state government’s “very strong preference” that residents in the affected shires do not travel outside their local areas.
