Australian boxing superstar Billy Dib has won plenty of fights in his storied career. But last night’s win over Jacob ‘The Flamingo’ NG was one of the strangest of them all, with NG disqualified for a wrestling-style throw that sent the veteran crashing to the canvas.
36-year-old Dib, a former two-time world champion, had promised to retire if he couldn’t beat the 15-0 (11KO) NG, widely considered one of Australian boxing’s hottest lightweight prospects.
NG enjoyed an 11cm height advantage over Dib and is nine years his junior, but the thrilling bout was well-matched for large segments of the action with both fighters engaging in some sublime exchanges.
But a heated rivalry boiled over on the Gold Coast when the pair engaged in a sixth-round clinch, only for NG to hoist his rival and drop him on his back.

The referee shook his head as he marched NG away, before a doctor was called to tend to a prone Dib.
Fans were astounded at the move, booing loudly as NG walked around the ring while his opponent lay hurt.
Dib could not return to the action, with NG disqualified for the illegal manoeuvre.
