BJ Penn gets knocked out in street fight outside bar in Hawaii: video

UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn is back in action – on the streets of Hawaii.

Videos obtained by TMZ Sports show Penn, 40, throwing a flurry of left hands while atop an unidentified man on Tuesday at the Lava Shack bar in Pahoa, where onlookers and security guards had to break up the melee.

Penn appeared to land at least four haymakers before he was pulled off the man – who later caught up with Penn and knocked him to the ground with a brutal combination of his own, according to the footage. Penn has lost seven straight fights inside the octagon.

A rep for Penn said the scrap started after “words were exchanged’ between the professional fighter and the man described as Penn’s acquaintance.

“From witness accounts, BJ tried multiple times to defuse the situation, but was hit repeatedly and knocked to the ground, as seen on the video,” the rep told TMZ Sports in a statement.

Penn appeared to slam his head onto the street after getting sent to the ground, but both he and his unidentified foe avoided serious injury, according to Penn’s rep. A source close to Penn told TMZ Sports that man is “notorious for taunting” the former UFC lightweight and welterweight champ.

A friend of Penn’s family told MMA Junkie that Penn was attacked first in the video that showed him crumbling to the ground.

“I spoke to BJ, and BJ’s like, ‘No, I did nothing,’” family friend Gary Levitt said, adding that it’s unclear exactly what set off the fight.

Penn himself didn’t even know, according to Levitt’s account.

“He said the guy punched him, and many, many people saw it, and [the unidentified man] punched him again, and he went, ‘Stop, what are you doing?’” Levitt told the site. “BJ did not do anything, meaning [he] didn’t fight back.”

Cops responded to the scene, but no arrests were made since the scuffle had broken up by that time, MMA Junkie reports.

“Everybody had dispersed, and the people that were standing around there didn’t know anything about what happened,” Hawaii Police Department spokesman Alan Richman told the website.

The incident comes just two months after Penn scrapped with a bouncer outside a Honolulu strip club, where he was kicked out for acting “very drunk,” the club’s owner told TMZ. He’s expected to fight Nik Lentz later this year in what UFC president Dana White said will be Penn’s last fight.
