BLINKS are dismayed after seeing the world’s highly acclaimed female Kpop group, BLACKPINK, not on the list of the 2020 APAN Music Awards top 10 artists.
The fans of BLACKPINK, BLINKs, lambasted the 2020 APAN Music Awards with their claim that the organization is neglecting the quartet.
Earlier on November 27, the APAN Music Awards ranked this year’s top 10 artists. The big names included on the list include Kang Daniel, MONSTA X, BTS, THE BOYZ, Seventeen, IZ*ONE, Lim Young Woong, NCT 127, GOT7, and TWICE. This year, the said awarding ceremony will be held for the first time in history.
A questionable result?
With the list issued by the awarding body without BLACKPINK, the BLINKS are convinced that something is going on. The fans claim that in the pre-voting conducted on an application, BLACKPINK ranked 10th. Also, they believe that the group’s album sales and performances in 2020 were better than any other girl group this year.
Artists that have made it into the top 10 in the early voting were dropped in the final ranking. This includes Stray Kids, Lee Chan Won, ASTRO, TXT, and BLACKPINK. The pre-voting takes up 40% of the final selection.
BLINKS doing the math
This year, if we lay out BLACKPINK’s achievement, their first full-length album, THE ALBUMsold 689,000 copies in the first week. This feat is almost twice the previous record. Then in total, they were able to sell more than 1.53 million albums.

These staggering digits easily beat TWICE, IZ*ONE, and other girl groups. The record made by the female superstars is comparable to the record sales of NCT 127.
More to the achievements of BLACKPINK, their pre-released song How You Like That? topped for 21 days in Melon Charts. This is one of the three songs that made it to the top of the chart among all the Korean girl groups’ songs. And How You Like That? is the only track that stayed on the top spot for more than a day.
With this, the BLINKS are demanding for the organization to explain as they cannot understand the judges’ scores system. Simultaneously, the fans trended on Twitter the hashtag #APAN_TOP10_Explain.
