Boris Johnson joined Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel, Donald Trump and other world leaders in Biarritz on Monday, as the Group of Seven met for their annual conference. The summit marked Mr Johnson’s first appearance in his new role, after taking over the mantel from Theresa May this summer. And he went down a storm with the G7 group, as the US President heaped praise on the newts member of the team. Boris also used the forum to outline his vision for Brexit – much to the disgust of other EU leader.
The PM delivered a rousing speech in which he claimed it was the “job of everybody in Parliament” to deliver Brexit and revealed he was marginally optimistic about securing a new deal.
Mr Johnson also reiterated his determination to stop Mr Corbyn becoming prime minister, as the anti-Brexit sentiment grows while MPs are off on their summer break.
Mr Johnson said: “One of my many missions in life is to protect the people of this country from the appalling consequences of a Labour government.”
He added Mr Corbyn, if in power, “would also renege, reject, revoke the mandate of the people”.
And Mr Johnson said: “I cannot think of anything worse for democracy or for trust in politics and I very much hope that does not happen.”
But while Mr Johnson delivered a stunning performance in Biarritz, there was one person missing form the crowds.
Girlfriend Carrie Symonds failed to make the journey to France with her partner – and dod not make an appearance with her fellow g& wives and girlfriends.
First Lady Melania Trump was joined by Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, Akie Abe, wife of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chile’s First Lady Cecilia Morel, Jenny Morrison, the wife of Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and Malgorzata Tusk, wife of European Council President Donald Tusk.
But Carrie Symonds was nowhere to be seen, as she was believed to not be able to make the trip due to prior work commitments.
But while Carrie seemingly snubbed the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron, she won’t be short of exciting invitations now her man is in No 10.
In fact, Carrie was expected to meet the Queen at her Balmoral Estate for an informal barbecue.
The Queen traditionally invites Prime Ministers and their spouses to stay with her during early September.
A source revealed Carrie was “expected to go” to Scotland next month – although these plans could have now soured after Mr Johnson today announced plans to ask the Queen to prorogue parliament.
In a letter to MPs today, the PM outlined his Government’s plans to bring forward a “bold and ambitious domestic legislative agenda” which MPs would be able to vote on in October.
He denied speculation he was proroguing Parliament to stop MPs from blocking no deal Brexit.
Mr Johnson wrote: “Parliament will have the opportunity to debate the Government’s overall programme, and approach to Brexit, in the run up to EU Council, and then vote on this on 21 and 22 October, once we know the outcome of the Council.
“Should I succeed in agreeing a deal with the EU, Parliament will then have the opportunity to pass the Bill required for ratification of the deal ahead of 31 October.”
His controversial move could mean the Queen will be forced to come back from Balmoral early – putting an end to her annual summer trip.
The decision will also put the Queen in an awkward situation, where she may be forced to break royal protocol for the first time in her 67 year reign and stop in to stop the enveloping political crisis.
