Premier Daniel Andrews said today’s state budget will ease some of the “pain” coronavirus has thrust upon Victoria.
Mr Andrews also declared there are no zero active cases in Victoria, and no new cases overnight.
“There’s been a lot of damage, a lot of pain over these last eight to 10 months,” Mr Andrews said.
Mr Andrews said the $3b dedicated to brand new schools and upgraded buildings is a record-setting boost.
Deputy Premier James Merlino said the investment into the education sector was necessary and “extraordinary”.
The $1.9bn boost comes on top of the $1.1bn pledged earlier in the year.
Of the $1.9bn, more than half was being pushed into 162 projects.
Land has been purchased for 11 new schools, Mr Merlino said.
He said the government was on track for its target of 100 new schools by 2026.
The $3bn will help grow student placements at Victorian government schools by 22,700 enrolments, Mr Merlino said.
The massive building projects would lead to more than 10,000 construction jobs and “thousands more” supply chain job.
