Most people think of their wedding day as one of the most important events in their lives – and we all want to look back on the photos and think it was perfect.
So, we spend a fortune on dresses, flowers, the ultimate venue and hair and makeup for brides and bridesmaids.
And, while the bride gets to choose her bridal party’s clothes and hairstyles on the big day there’s a lot that can’t be controlled.
Such as your bridesmaid’s weight – which you should probably leave well alone.
What do you think? Does the bride have a point or was she totally in the wrong? Tell us in the comments…
However, one bride has been ripped apart online after chucking her sister out of her wedding party for gaining over a stone in lockdown.
Posting on Reddit, the woman explained that her sibling had always been overweight whereas she and her four sisters and one brother remained “petite”.
She wrote: “No one in our family ever treated her badly for her weight, though my mum did try to help her diet several times throughout our childhood for purely health reasons.
“She was hospitalised for her eating disorder for the first time when she was 18.
“Pre-pandemic, Julia seemed to be on a recovery kick again. She looked healthy, seemed to be eating normally.
“I was hopeful she could keep it together and felt okay about asking her to be a bridesmaid at that point.”
The woman continued: “That was the last time I saw her though (Feb 2020), until I saw her Friday for Christmas Day.
“Julia has gained a LOT of weight in that time, probably 10kg, which is a lot because she’s short.”
The bride then explained that she had decided to dump her sibling from the wedding.
She said: “I [decided] it makes more sense for her to not be a bridesmaid. That way she can wear whatever she wants, be skinny or fat, show up or not, and it won’t affect the day as a whole.”
The bride explained to the sibling it was “for her own good”.
However, the decision set off a family feud and her father was furious while her mum and sisters are on her side.
She added: “So I wasn’t that worried about being in the wrong here – until my Fiancé said I was wrong and basically called me out for even bringing up her weight with her.
“God forbid one single day doesn’t revolve around her I guess.”
Reddit users united against the bride’s decision.
One said: “The obsession over the wedding pictures is disgusting.
“Why does a wedding have to be an Instagram event?”
“With family like this, it’s no wonder she has an eating disorder,” added another.
A third commented: “Bride sounds so self-centered.”
But a few disagreed.
One person commented: “Maybe she went about it the wrong way, but her feelings are valid.
“Also what girl doesn’t dream a perfect wedding day, it’s natural to overthink all the variables that play into it.”
