BRUNO FERNANDES will get a double-your-money pay hike to further nail down his long-term Old Trafford future.
Fernandes signed a five-year deal when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January in a deal that will eventually cost around £67million.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reward his role as Manchester United’s main man – and KO the chance of anyone trying to unsettle him in the summer.
Although there are no immediate talks arranged, United top brass plan to hold talks with the Portuguese star in the new year, and agree fresh terms by the end of the season.
It is likely to involve a small extension on the length of his current contract, and will see his wages rocket to around £200,000.
Despite being a huge success at Old Trafford, Fernandes is some distance off the club’s high earners, topped by David De Gea on nearly £375,000 a week.
And while his new wages will take him level with Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford, he will be behind Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.
Fernandes, 26, was an instant hit at United, and has become the key figure in Solskjaer’s plans.
There has been no question of his being unsettled at the club, but a fresh contract would stop any danger of cheeky inquiries should they fall short this season.
He has scored seven and registered four assists in 10 league appearances this season while also bagging three in the Champions League.
