Calls have been made to boycott financial services company Stripe after its CEO posted on X that it was great to be in Tel Aviv.
Advocacy group Tech4Palestine accused CEO Patrick Collison of posting Israeli “propaganda” and is looking to begin a campaign to get people to migrate off the platform.
The group describes itself as a “loose coalition of tech folk working towards Palestinian freedom by using our tech skills to support our morals.”
On Wednesday Collison posted a picture on X saying “great to be back in Tel Aviv. I missed this run.”
Tech4Palestine told The New Arab that “it is shameful for the CEO of Stripe to post obvious pro-Israel propaganda, after Israel has carpet bombed Lebanon, and killed over 200,000 Palestinians in Gaza, and as it attempts to annex the West Bank.”
“Patrick has been to Palestine and seen the occupation – he knows what he is doing. His customers and employees deserve better,” they added.
The New Arab reached out to Stripe for comment but did not receive any at the time of publication.
The company provides a number of financial services including payments and billing to customers.
The calls to boycott also saw a spat between Tech4Palestine founder Paul Biggar and CEO of Nas Company Nuseir Yassin, a Palestinian citizen of Israel who describes himself as “Israeli first”.
Yassin replied to Biggar saying “Bro if you can’t beat them join them. If you do tech4palestineANDisrael you’ll get 70 unicorns. Now you have zero.”
Biggar responded saying “Completely agree – let’s merge Israel and Palestine into a single multi-ethnic state with full equality and rights for all”, to which Yassin replied “Nah. I don’t want that and I don’t think the 2 million Israeli Arabs want that either.”
