(KRON) — A Canadian man will serve two years in prison after he sexually extorted a minor from the East Bay, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Fahey of Gulf Island, Canada. He made contact with the victim over social media in 2019.
Fahey requested sexually explicit images of the victim, and the victim complied. He then threatened to release the images unless the victim sent him more photos.
Authorities investigated Fahey’s social media accounts to identify him. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested him at his home in the providence of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2021. He was later charged in Canadian Superior Court.

“Parents need to understand that individuals who prey on minors online are not restricted by
national or state boundaries,” DA Diane Becton said.
The DA’s office referred to the crime as “sextortion.” The FBI said 12,600 American children were sextortion victims between 2021 and 2023.
Fahey was sentenced to two years in prison and will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
