Horrifying footage allegedly shows the moment a woman was shot in the neck in Washington DC as violent protests over the results of the US Presidential election erupt tonight.
The Capitol building – the US equivalent to the Houses of Parliament – is currently under siege by protesters after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the building tonight, January 6.
In a series of disturbing clips, uploaded on Twitter by @TaylerUSA, a gunshot is heard and then a woman lies on the ground covered in blood as terrified people scramble around her.
While people scream in panic, a police officer holding an automatic weapon appears to warn people to stand back.

“There’s an active shooter here,” someone shouts in the background.
“A young woman was just shot in the neck right beside me in the Capitol Building,” Tayler wrote in the caption.
The woman is at a nearby hospital in critical condition and four other people have been hospitalised with injuries, according to CBS News.
Riots began at the Capitol building when Trump once again claimed to have “won” the 2020 US election and accused his rival Democrats of cheating, the news channel reports.
In a video uploaded on Twitter at 4.20 pm local time in Washington DC, Trump doubled-down with his message that the election was “stolen from us” but told the protesters to “go home now”.

Meanwhile, President-elect Joe Biden has said that democracy is “under an unprecedented assault” in response to the violent scenes tonight.
He said the carnage did not “reflect a true America”.
On Twitter, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote: “Disgraceful scenes in U.S. Congress.
“The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.”
