Scammers have gotten a lot more clever.

Yes, there are probably still people sending emails telling people they inherited money and just need to turn over a bank account to get it. And, there probably are still a few people posing as princes running a similar scam along with the lottery version of the same “turn over your bank account info” flim flam.

In many cases, however, scams have gotten much more high tech. A grandparent might get a call asking for money from a grandchild that appears to come from the child’s number.

You may get a call that appears to be coming from your bank warning of an overdraft, but it’s actually not your bank.

That’s why it’s Important to be vigilant, skeptical, and to always make sure you’re speaking to the person and company you actually think you are.

One Carnival passengers almost learned that lesson the hard and expensive way.

Doug Parker from Cruise News Today had the full story.

Beware this Carnival Cruise Line scam

Transcript:

This is cruise news today with Doug Parker.

Good morning. Here’s your cruise news for Monday, January 20.

Cruise passengers are being warned of a scam targeting Carnival Cruise Line customers. Now, scammers are posing as cruise reps claiming that unpaid balances or fees need to be paid while pressuring guests to provide credit card information. This is being done through emails and fake online ads.

A recent report said that one passenger almost paid $456 after calling a fake number found online.

That was masked as a Carnival Cruise Line number.

However, they did contact Carnival directly through its official website and resolved the issue for free. To avoid scams, experts recommend verifying contact info through the cruise line’s official website and avoiding unsolicited calls or emails asking for financial details
