CUERO, Texas – October 8 is now known as Allonia Earnestine Kitchen day in Cuero, that’s because Mrs. Kitchen turns 100 this Saturday, October 8.
Mrs. Kitchen was joined by family members from all over Texas, some even coming from as far as Massachusetts to witness the mayor of Cuero, Sara Post Meyer, announce the proclamation that recognizes her 100 birthday.
Gathered around her in Cuero’s City Hall Chambers, Mrs. Kitchen had a few words for everyone that came.
“I thank God for Cuero. When I moved to Cuero, I was standing right by that beauty shop one morning and he say, “You will be the mother of this city,” I say, “Not me,” says Kitchen.
But over time she really has filled the role of the mother of Cuero.
She’s been there since 1980 and in that time has been active in her church, My Father’s House of Cuero, and has shown her dedication to the welfare of others by helping out and visiting with anyone who is lucky enough to cross paths with her. She’s founded a citywide prayer group showing how passionate she is about the power of prayer.
“Prayer is the key to every door. I don’t care if it’s wood, steel, whatever. You want something broke down, you fast and you pray on it. It will happen,” says Kitchen.
Mayor Post Meyer praising Mrs. Kitchens for her dedication to being a stewardess of the Cuero community.
“It’s wonderful when an individual citizen of our community takes it upon themselves to help improve our community as she has done and she gives on herself with prayer and with good wishes, it is a wonderful attribute to have and it just spreads that particular joy,” says Mayor Post Meyer.
Mrs. Kitchen’s son Irving says that this is the first member in his family to live to see 100.
“That’s the blessing that I think God has given us, he says it’s in the bloodline, we can do it, just gotta keep doing what she’s doin’,” says Irving.
Kitchens also says she not only prays for the city of Cuero but for everyone who came.
“I’m a poor little lady, with a rich little heart,” says Kitchen.
The big party is tomorrow though, the actual day of her birthday, with over 100 family members planned to come to Cuero to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Happy 100th birthday Mrs. Kitchen!
