Female super-star boxer Claressa Shields will finally return to the ring after a year out of the sport. ‘T-Rex’ will make her return in a highly anticipated fight against Marie-Eve Dicaire on March 5. Furthermore, it will now be a fight of great importance and significance in boxing.

The fight was initially meant to take place on May 9, 2020. However, the COVID-19 shutdown meant they had to postpone the event. Since then, Shields has been in the news multiple times and even signed an MMA deal with PFL. However, her first fight of 2021 will be in the boxing ring.

Dan Rafael reported the news on his Twitter. The two will fight on a historic all-women pay-per-view card. The Shields-Dicaire fight will be the headliner in an event that will cost fans $29.99. Moreover, it will be on the Women’s Day weekend, i.e., March 5.

The fight will be for more than the three belts the pair hold. Shields holds two of the 154 lbs belts, the WBO and WBC, while Dicaire holds the IBF belt. However, reports suggested a vacant belt will be added to this fight, thus making it an undisputed bout.

Shields said headlining the historic event at an important time for women’s sport was very meaningful to her. She added, “We’re going to put on one heck of a show for the world to see. It’s one big step for boxing and one giant step for womankind.”

Her opponent Dicaire said, “I am excited about this opportunity for my career and for the advancement of international women’s boxing. Like Claressa I am undefeated and, just like her, I am coming to defend my world crown.”

Thus, the significance of this fight is clear for all to see. Moreover, they could not have picked a better fight for this unprecedented step in women’s boxing. It will be interesting to see how the event goes.
