Claressa Shields has become the latest boxing star to react to Ryan Garcia’s victory over Luke Campbell. The ‘GWOAT’ had a lot of good to say about her compatriot, but also shared her emotions when Campbell knocked down the 22-year-old.
Garcia beat Luke Campbell via knockout in the seventh round after a very close fight. However, Garcia’s ability to recover from a second-round knockdown caught everyone’s attention. It was the first time in his career that any fighter dropped him.
Shields, who knows Garcia personally, took to her Instagram to let him know how proud he made her. She shared a picture of the two from the past and captioned it with, “Ha! I’m proud of the kid @kingryan him getting dropped scared the mess out of me!”
Shields included, “But he got up & showed his heart! Can’t do nothing but respect that! RESILIENCE! Congrats man! Congrats! The liver shot!”
‘T-Rex’ who will make her MMA debut later this year, was impressed with Garcia’s ability to get back up after taking a huge blow. This was something that fans were concerned about ahead of the fight.
Claressa Shields pays respect to Luke Campbell
The ‘GWOAT’ made sure she gave respect to Garcia’s opponent, Luke Campbell too. She wrote, “And I’ll just say @luke11campbell was no slouch! Definitely came with a Game plan! Just that body shot was unexpected!”
Given that no one had ever dropped Garcia in his career, it showed just how well Campbell did.
Shields, who will fight in the PFL this year, is clearly ecstatic for the young fighter. Not only did he prove his mettle, but he also has opened up a world of opportunities for himself in the lightweight division. Despite being mandatory for Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia could face any of the other champions too.
Therefore, his victory over Luke Campbell was of utmost significance. Campbell has faced Vasyl Lomachenko and even he did not knock him out. This is a testament to the power of Ryan Garcia. How well do you think ‘KingRy’ will do in the lightweight division after a performance like that?
