The couple started dating in 2010 – nine years after the death of Judi Dench’s husband of 30 years, Michael Williams
Dame Judi Dench and David Mills considered marriage in lockdown after 11 years together…but preferred living in separate houses.
A lot of us might have enjoyed that luxury at points during lockdown….
The couple started dating in 2010 – nine years after the death of Judi’s husband of 30 years, Michael Williams.
David, 77, said: “We talked about that but I think we are far better off as we are as we have got two separate houses. And we are either in one or the other and we are four miles apart.”
Previously when asked about the prospect of marrying the conservationist last year, Dame Judi, 86, sounded horrified and said: “No, no, no, no, no. Let’s just pull ourselves together and be our age!”
Appearing at the RHS Chelsea Flower show together this week, former dairy farmer David said of their 11-year romance: “Initially it was a bit daunting but we go everywhere. It has made me famous but I have found it all fine.
“I have met all the Hollywood stars, I get on well with them.
“I am not an actor you see. I am not competition to them and that is how it works.”
Judi, who played M in the Bond films, is to appear in an oil painting in the upcoming No Time To Die, which premieres next week.
Tears For Fears
Tears for Fears star Roland Orzabal is disappointed he did not get called up for Strictly, despite his best efforts…
The singer/songwriter, who collected the Outstanding Song Collection at the Ivors at the Grosvenor House in London along with bandmate Curt Smith, tried to impress while performing on Strictly in 2017.
He says: “We played on Strictly and I kept looking over at the judges with jazz hands. I was expecting an invite, which didn’t come. Turned down again. I’m jinxed.” Everybody wants to rule the dancefloor.

Cheryl Tweedy has been recording with Beyonce ’s producer Naughty Boy and her former Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola Roberts.
Naughty Boy said: “Me, Cheryl and Nicola put a few songs together. They’re really incredible but it depends when Cheryl is ready to release it. There’s definitely an album there.”
He told how Cheryl might prefer to pause in the wake of her bandmate Sarah Harding’s death this month, adding: “After all that happened, you can’t force these things.”
