The development comes amid protests across different parts of northeastern India against the reported hostilities against Hindus in Bangladesh. A senior official in the Tripura government said an inquiry into Monday’s incident has been ordered and the deputy inspector general (DIG), Southern Range, would conduct the probe.
“Three sub-inspector of police – Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain – were suspended while assistant commandant (a DSP-rank officer) Kanti Nath Ghosh was withdrawn from his posting by the West Tripura District superintendent of police, Kiran Kumar K,” the official said.
Officials said seven persons were detained in connection with the breach of security at the AHC office.
According to the official, a delegation of ‘Hindu Sangharsh Samiti’ met AHC officials on Monday and submitted a memorandum, urging the caretaker government of Bangladesh to stop the alleged atrocities on the Hindu community. During this time, some activists forcefully entered the complex AHC and reportedly “desecrated” the Bangladesh national flag, before the police drove them out.
Chief minister Manik Saha condemned the breach of security at the Bangladesh AHC office.
