Air Fryer Biscuits are so easy to make! Soft and tender on the inside with a buttery edge! Perfect with butter and honey or jam!

Make sure to check out my post: How To Use An Air Fryer. It covers everything from A-Z in choosing and cooking with an air fryer!

Why Make Biscuits In An Air Fryer?

I LOVE this biscuit recipe and making them in the air fryer is now my new favorite method to cook them. Of course I still adore my Skillet Biscuits. But if you’re looking for a more traditional style of biscuit, this is the perfect recipe. Cooking them in the air fryer gets that golden, crisp and buttery edge on all sides of the biscuit that I love so much. Plus, they’re done a little quicker than in the oven, which makes them a great side dish. AND this is a great option when you don’t want to turn on your oven and heat up your kitchen.

What Style Air Fryer Is Best?

I have covered this topic in great detail in my Air Fryer Breakdown post. So honestly, just use whatever air fryer you own. I prefer the air fryer that has racks (oven style air fryer) simply because you can cook more at once than the traditional basket-style. But both styles will work for this biscuit recipe!

PRO TIP: Even if you do have multiple racks in your air fryer, I still like to only cook on one rack for this recipe to produce the most evenly cooked biscuits.

Why This Recipe Works:

This recipe works like a dream. Buttery, crisp biscuit edges with a tender and flaky interior. Perfect for butter and honey!

  • Simple ingredients.
  • Using salted butter gives you that salty, buttery edge.
  • The air circulating in the air fryer really get the coveted crisp edge, but leaves the insides super tender and flaky!
  • Using cold butter leaves pea sized bits throughout the dough, which is what gives you the flaky layers. You don’t want to over-mix the dough!
  • The heat and the circulating air in the air fryer really gives the biscuits a lot of lift. Make sure your baking powder is fresh as well for sky high biscuits!

The Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Kosher salt
  • Butter, salted cold and cubed
  • Buttermilk. If you don’t have buttermilk on-hand, check out my post on How To Make Buttermilk! It’s super easy, and a great buttermilk substitution.

How To Air Fryer Biscuits/Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Using a pastry cutter or fork, mix in the butter until combined and butter is about the size of small peas. Stir the buttermilk into the flour mixture until a thick dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a clean counter and knead 6 to 7 times until the flour is all incorporated. Don’t overwork the dough. You want to see butter pieces throughout, this makes the biscuits flaky.
  4. Form the dough into a 1 1/2- inch circle, and cut the biscuits using a 2 1/2- inch biscuit cutter.
  5. Coat the basket of your air fryer with nonstick spray. Place biscuits 2- inches apart in a single layer on the basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer you will be able to fit 4 – 6 biscuits in the basket. Cook at 400°F for 8 – 10 minutes until golden brown!
  6. Melt more butter in a small microwave-safe bowl and brush the melted butter on the hot biscuits.

Do You Need To Use Parchment Paper?

No! The great thing about this recipe is the biscuit dough is sturdy enough that it won’t drip or ooze through the rack of your air fryer basket. You certainly could use parchment if you really wanted to, but you absolutely don’t have to!

No Air Fryer? No Problem!

Let’s just say you’ve stumbled on this recipe and you really want to make these buttermilk biscuits, but don’t have an air fryer. This is absolutely no problem! You can easily bake these biscuits on a baking sheet in the oven at 425°F for 10 – 15 minutes!

Can I Cook Canned Biscuits In An Air Fryer?

There’s no reason you can’t make canned biscuits in the air fryer if you don’t want to make them from scratch. You will need to adjust the temperatures for canned biscuits vs scratch biscuits. Here’s what I do:

  1. Coat the rack with nonstick spray.
  2. Air fry at 330°F for 7 – 8 minutes.
  3. Since the canned biscuits have sugar in them, I recommend flipping them halfway through, or at least shaking the basket halfway through to ensure they don’t stick to the rack. The sugar in the dough can caramelize slightly and sometimes stick. This also depends on the brand and style of biscuit (flaky vs buttermilk vs Pillsbury Grands biscuits).

Best Way To Reheat Air Fryer Biscuits

Reheating biscuits in the air fryer is super easy, and really a great way to enjoy them the next day. Here’s what you do:

  1. Place the biscuits on the rack. You can use a little cooking spray on the rack if you’re worried about sticking, but you shouldn’t have a problem with that if you’re just reheating!
  2. Cook at 350°F for 2 – 3 minutes.
  3. Enjoy!

How To Store:

Store your biscuits in an airtight container or zip-top bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. I prefer biscuits the same day they are made, but they will last for a few days if stored correctly. You can also freeze biscuits as well. Place them in an airtight container and store for up to 30 days. Allow them to thaw at room temperature, and reheat!

Description:

Cooking biscuits in the air fryer is my new favorite method. You get tall, golden biscuits that are tender and flaky on the inside with a salty, buttery edge!

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter, cold and cubed + 2 tablespoons
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Using a pastry cutter, mix in the butter until combined and butter is about the size of small peas. Stir in the buttermilk until a thick dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a clean counter and knead 6 to 7 times until the flour is all incorporated. Don’t overwork the dough. You want to see butter pieces throughout, this makes the biscuits flaky.
  4. Form the dough into a circle that is 1 1/2- inch es in thickness, and cut the biscuits using a 2 1/2- inch biscuit cutter.
  5. Coat the basket of your air fryer with nonstick spray. Place biscuits 2- inches apart on the basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer you will be able to fit 4 – 6 biscuits in the basket. Cook at 400°F for 8 – 10 minutes.
  6. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in a small microwave-safe bowl. Brush the melted butter on the hot biscuits.

Notes:

I think biscuits are best if enjoyed the same day they are made, but you can store airtight for up to 2 days.
