Deloitte UK has revealed it has promoted 79 people to partner during the past year– an 18% increase on the previous year.
Of the new promotions, 24 (30%) are women taking Deloitte’s female partners to 282 (25%), and 11 new partners are from Ethnic Minority* backgrounds, equating to 14% of the promotions. Those identifying as Ethnic Minority now represent 7% of Deloitte’s total partners.
As part of the firm’s wider Ethnicity Action Plan, Deloitte said it has committed to 12% Ethnic Minority and 3% Black partners by 2025, plus targets across other grades to create the future pipeline. This year’s promotions include one new Black partner, totalling seven Black partners in the UK.
Deloitte recently announced three new additions to the leadership team with Lisa Stott joining as the managing partner for tax and legal, Jackie Henry taking over as managing partner for people and purpose and Kirsty Newman being appointed as UK market chair. Females now represent a third of the UK Executive.
Jackie Henry is providing leadership of Deloitte’s UK people strategy and purpose agenda, focusing on inclusion and wellbeing. She started her career with Deloitte in Belfast as a graduate 31 years ago and for the past seven years has been lead partner in Northern Ireland.
By business, the firm’s audit and assurance business has promoted 21 new partners, with nine in risk advisory, 24 in consulting, 13 in tax and legal, 10 in financial advisory and two in central management. A quarter of promotions (25%) are based outside London.
Richard Houston, senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte UK, said: “This past year has undoubtedly emphasised the need for businesses to think and act with agility, adapting at pace to a changing market and shifting client demands.
“These promotions represent a significant achievement for those individuals who have demonstrated an ability to navigate the uncertainty, prioritise the wellbeing of our people, and support our clients through these challenging times.”
He added: “While we’ve got much further to go, we’ve made progress on our inclusion priorities this year, building the foundations to ensure that our firm is reflective of society. In line with our commitment to transparency, we’ll communicate our progress against targets and use the data to identify areas where further action is needed.”
