Denise Welch has blasted Piers Morgan once again on Saturday after the former Good Morning Britain presenter revealed he had caught Covid-19 at the Euro 2020 final.
The 56-year-old presenter has had both doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine, but said he started to develop symptoms such as a fever, chills and coughing fits just two days after Italy beat England and Wembley on July 11.
But while describing it as the “roughest I’ve felt” from an illness in his adult life, Piers wasn’t getting any sympathy of Loose Women panellist Denise Welch.
The Geordie actress, 63, has often been fiercely vocal about the government’s handling over coronavirus restrictions during the pandemic, and took to Instagram to question Piers’ latest admission.
Denise shared a screenshot of a news article Piers had written about his condition and wrote alongside it: “Funny that he says he’s the been the most ill he’s ever been in his life but has tweeted every day since Wembley and never mentioned it once!!!
“Just unlike Piers to remain quiet about something like that’s all #justsaying.”
Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Piers admitted that he believes having the Covid vaccine “may have saved his life” after falling ill.
He compared his situation to his friend and former GMB co-star Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper who was almost killed by the virus last year and is now still recovering at home.
But Denise, wasn’t buying his story and couldn’t grasp why it has taken Piers so long to talk about it.
Denise has often spoke of the “hypocrisy” of the government’s rules and recently clashed with her Loose Women co-panellist over her views.
The latest comments are not the first time Denise has lashed out at Piers for his words. Last month the Hollyoaks actress labelled him a “f***ing disgrace” for his comments towards tennis player Naomi Osaka.
The athlete had just pulled out of the French Open after admitting she had been suffering with her mental health, but Piers wrote a scathing critique of the then-world number two.
Denise quickly leapt to her defence and called out Piers for berating women.
She wrote at the time: “Piers Morgan publicly berating a brilliant young woman for prioritising her mental health AGAIN!!!
“Naomi Osaka has bravely withdrawn from the French Open after admitting to crippling depression since 2018 and that fear of talking to press until the end of the competition can bring on her anxiety.”
She added: “Anyone who has suffered depression and anxiety knows that life becomes unbearable and you will do anything to stop the pain. Piers also proves why so many people suffer in silence because of fear of being called ‘an arrogant narcissistic spoiled brat’. This man is a f…..g disgrace.”
