June 16th 2021 marks Tupac’s 50th birthday, and Jada Pinkett Smith, a close friend of the late rapper, took to Instagram to celebrate the day and remember their friendship.
Jada shared a never- before- seen poem written by Tupac, which she read out loud and told fans: “I don’t think this one has ever been published… I don’t think he would have minded that I shared this with you guys.”
The two had a very close relationship after meeting at school, and Jada has spoken regularly about her love for the rapper.
Did Jada Pinkett Smith and Tupac Shakur date?
Jada Pinkett Smith has always been very vocal about her relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur, and has always affirmed that they were nothing more than friends. In a 2017 interview, she said:
“I know that most people want to always connect it in this romance thing, but that’s just because they don’t have the story.”
Jada has previously stated that they were an “anchor” for one another and that their friendship “was about survival.”
However, Jada did admit that the two kissed once, saying: “There was a time when I was like, ‘Just kiss me! Let’s just see how this goes,’ and when I tell you it had to be the most disgusting kiss for us both.”
In a 2015 Howard Stern interview, Jada opened up about how her and Tupac fell out before he was killed at the age of 25. She said:
“It definitely taught me a lesson, which is life is too short. Do not let disagreements stand in between you and people that you love and care about.”
In a 2020 interview, Will Smith explained that in the “early days” of his relationship with Jada he was jealous of the love she had for Tupac.
Will said: “You know, because we had a little bit of a thing. You know, they grew up together and they loved each other, but they never had a sexual relationship.”
How did Jada and Tupac meet?
Jada and Tupac met at Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland. She explained in an interview:
“It was the first day and he came over to me and introduced himself. And in high school, Pac was a little funny looking. Definitely from looking at him, wasn’t necessarily the type of cat that I would even like, deal with.”
Jada described Tupac as “a magnet” and the two of them quickly became close friends.
Jada has stated that “there was no physical chemistry” between her and Tupac, and that “he was like a brother.”
